We took Dominic to the Strawberry Festival near us on Saturday. Think of it as his 16 week old birthday present...

Anyway, he was a bit nervous at first because there were a LOT of people (and a few dogs) in a fairly tight space, but after maybe 5 minutes he mellowed and just quietly followed us around. He watched everyone and never shied away if they came close, but not once did he approach someone of his own volition, either. Totally content to just stand by us and wait while we browsed the vendors, and paid complete attention when we told him to "sitz" or "platz"! =D> We were so proud of him! He even waited to go potty until we left, whereas some of the other dogs didn't...

Oh, and everyone thought he was just beautiful (as I'm saying, "Um, please don't pet my puppy..."), even though 50% of the people asked if he was a wolf, and the other 50% didn't believe me when I said GSD. #-o

AND (last thing) on his 16 week birthday, he started GROWLING!! \:D/ He's been growling at Jaeger and at us in play for quite some time now...started doing that maybe a week after we got him home...but Saturday night was the first time he growled for real. I took him outside to potty, and it just so happened that our friends were pulling into our driveway at the same time. As soon as he saw them walking towards the house...little hackles up and "grrrrrrr". He didn't run towards them or anything, but he didn't run away, either! :D :D :D

Then Sunday night, it was dark when we got home. We don't have any lights in our backyard, so when we went out to get the boys out of their kennels, they couldn't really see who we were. We were goofing off, reenacting a scene from some dumb cartoon with lots of screaming and weird sound effects, and when we stopped, we heard a low rumble... And not from Jaeger! Goofy little boy. Guess the festival boosted his confidence tenfold!

Thought I'd share! :D

Greg,

Thanks. And I did get your PM and will reply soon. I just didn't get a chance to sit down at the computer this weekend.

And yeah, we take Dom pretty much everywhere we go so that he's exposed to as much as possible. That was just the first time he'd been in a BIG crowd, but I think he did pretty well. :D

good for you. i think this is one of the most over looked things that really shouldn't be. regardless of what the future holds for the dog (pet, sport, ppd, etc). you CANNOT go overboard exposing your dog to EVERYTHING...
