John has had that darn thing for at least a year now, and it's been through a couple of litters of pups. Don't know how often he uses it with bigger dogs, but I know he plays with his pups with it. I'd assume it will last quite awhile, kind of like those sheepskin tug toys you can get for dogs. The ones with really thin cut pieces don't last long at all, but if you get one that is 4-6 inches wide they have a pretty good lifespan, especially if they aren't used with adults.

My friend that trains **** dogs plays with the puppies with the racoon skins like that when they reach the end of the track. But a **** hound doesn't have quite the grip of a malinois
