Thanks, and thats not a dumb question....
Mals and Dutchies are bred to be able to physically handle any type of work, which calls for ALL aspects of the dogs to be pretty strong. Necks in particular I don't think would really be a defined breeding goal, no. However, it falls into the overall selection of strong dogs as a weak necked dog could never take a bite at the speed we look for. A slight jam can ruin a good dog as is, a dog with a weak neck would'nt stand a chance.
My Gator in particular has a pretty big neck because I take some risk by exercising him on a spring pole. Otherwise, I think it all just falls into the overall physical capability of the dogs when choosing a breeding dog or bitch.
