Isn't Mike's new brainchild of a forum terrific?
This place is KEWL! Sable's becoming very LARGE, and her O. training will be
stepped up on her 6 mo. mark (4.75 now :p ) ~ so much more questions will
follow!!!

BTW, Martin, I am not all that far from you. Well, not that close, but I have at least seen your town on a map! (I'm in Santa Cruz.)
Hey cool. Are there any good/great training clubs around? I really want a
experienced person to eval. my pup!

BTW - my wife LOVES Santa Cruz!!! I was always driving \"over the hill\" to
S.C. in my younger days (grew up in San Jose, CA)
Who doesn't? LOL! Only thing is trying to afford to live here..........

I live in the Victorian neighborhood right near downtown (between downtown and Santa Cruz High), so the best of all possible worlds.......walk to Pacific Ave., walk to the beach/boardwalk......easily explained why I have stayed in the same place for 30 years now!

I hear that there are very good Schutzhund clubs in San Jose and I think there's one near Tres Pinos. I don't like driving over the hill, so I don't. I will need to look up a PM from a year ago to get those club/trainer names.

I've heard that the Los Banos area is really nice too, and without the rain and fog we get here on the ocean.

Yeah, but 107 degree's for weeks on end is NOT really nice
That's true. We do not ever have stretches of hot weather.

I will find that PM. I remember someone from up the coast (Davenport or someplace) was telling me about San Jose and Central Valley clubs.

My guys are just in Ob clubs; I'm starting to learn (via forums!) about special-purpose training after years of basic Ob.

Martin,

I forgot to add that my interest in special-purpose training was piqued because I am occasionally able to join (watch) a person I know who trains police dogs for a city inland a way.

Also, that I am probably still not going to look for an existing club, but rather a helper who has experience and another owner with a helper. I am still trying to decide whether I have the stamina to do that work. I'm not Mike's age!

I function as the unofficial club \"leadership trainer,\" which means, of course, training the owners. They are often new owners and belong to the \"furkid\" group, but most see very quickly that what a dog needs as much as food and water is a sense of pack structure and his position in it.

I'm in no way qualified to evaluate any dog for anything except general energy and dominance qualities.

Martin, for once my computer files are failing me; I cannot find the email or PM I got from someone right near Santa Cruz who gave me some names of clubs in the San Jose area.

I found this site:
http://www.workingdogs.com/links.htm

Well, actually, I like this site a lot. I mean I found this PAGE of it:

Schutzhund Clubs and Organizations

Then it has a list of links, a couple of which look like lists of clubs.

I will keep looking!
