Leg Bites & Upper Body Bites with the same dog

I'm curious -- I'm assuming the answer is yes, but I'd like some input from some other folks too who may have done this and can give me pro's/con's to doing this...

I love the look of a dog going for an upper body bite on a bite suit, so naturally I want to do this with my dutchie pup, but on Sunday I saw what I consider to be among the coolest things I've seen in dog training, a french ring dog do an out-guard between the decoys legs then nail him with a crotch re-bite.

I was wondering if I could train both things? For example, either a seperate command to target legs, or in a regular scenario go for an upper body bite, then train the out-guard french-ring style with the out-guard between the decoys legs and re-bites in the crotch? Is this difficult to train? I have people to work with who could help me with this stuff when it gets to that stage in my girls training, but those are things that I would really enjoy teaching. But how "practical" is this? If I remember correctly there's KNPV dogs (maybe this is how they all are? I don't know) who do leg-bites on a prisoner transport, but do upper body bites when sent on the decoy normally. So I'm assuming my "idea" is a reasonable one.

Comments and input appreciated.

yes, this is how the KNPV trains. leg bites on the transport escape and bicycle attack. another reason why KNPV rules!

 of course does KNPV rules 8)

You are free to chose where the dogs bite (upperarm or underleg). We usually choose for arm attacks on the distant attacks, and the short attack on the leg or everyting on the leg. With the stick attack this is affront, every other attack on the back.

example (srry lot of pics):

Nika and me at her last trial last year (she´s 9 yrs on the pics)

stick attack

again stick attack, picture taken from another angle

flight after stick attack

long attack on "werp"

throwing "werpjes"

attack of handler, dog defending.

Arm attacks

Spike guarding object

bites attacker

and returns to object

stick attack

transport

bicycle attack

another legbites

a son of Rocky (Arca´s brother  )

First, what are you wanting to do with her?? Some sports like PSA I would hesitate to put a leg dog in there. They have a courage test thingy, and some of the stuff I have seen, the upper body dogs were barely safe, I think a leg dog would end up hurting the decoy, and or himself. Just what I have seen.

It seems to be the consensus that you keep them on the legs for the first year, and then show them the upper body. I tried to teach Buko to bite the arm for the Object guard and the Defense of handler. I got it, sort of, but I am also training for a sport. And YES, he does bite in the crotch. So nice to have Emily to catch him for me. Unless of course he feels the need to hit you dead center in the chest. Always interesting with that one!!!

Jeff, what part of PSA would make a leg dog risky? I don't know much about PSA nor the routine, but I wouldn't object to competing in it at some point if given the opportunity.

My primary training is for ASR though. One of Jay Murphy's dogs is a french ring dog that does leg bites, its allowed in ASR rules thats all I know. The dog does legs from a long-distance bite too though, I'm not keen on that for my girl, I'd prefer upper body bites, but on an Out/Guard and re-bite I'd like a crotch or leg bite outta her.
