Labs can be good for SOME things...

One of the first termite dogs was a beagle, down in Fla I think. That's a couple of yrs ago now.
Like David said, "Just another odor".

I've also seen articles on detector dogos that find mold, mercury, gas, you name it. If it has ANY odor, it can be taught.
 
A good working bred Lab is as good as they get for scent work.
The typical pet lab is the eternal furkid :roll: . Not allowed to grow up.
 
One of the best cadaver dogs I ever saw was a working bred lab that was given up as being to tough for retriever training. The dog would totally shake off the highest levels of e-collar correction.
Once the dog found out that life is fun, there was nothing it wouldn't learn.
