I thought I'd share some white squirrel pictures!

These are actually Gray Squirrels with a mutated gene that causes them to be white (kind of like white shepherds).

Don't we live an exciting life in Western NC?! LoL

I have seen two of these in Minneapolis. One of them lives in our immediate area. That one is Annie's favorite thing she wishes she could catch, kill, and eat.  She has a hard enough time with the normal gray squirrels...a white one, well, that's just cruel to her. Needless to say you can see a white squirrel from a LONG way off.
That is true, but for some reason, we have several isolated populations of them. The white squirrel festival is in Brevard, NC, but there are also white squirrels in Canton and Waynesville, too. I think they're purdy.
There's also a large population of them in Olny Ill. Don't even think about hurting one. Those folks are mighty touchy about their white squirrels.
We have a lot of fox squirrels down here. They can be any color. They're bigger too.
The Fox squrrels here are almost always red. Not the brightest bulbs either. Where a gray will flatten itself out on a branch to avoid being seen, the reds will sit and bark at you. Especially if you have a good squirrel dog. Great fried or done up in a crock pot! :D
it's not just north carolina. we have all kinds of stupid festivals over here. garlic festival, crawdad festival, wind festival, artichoke festival. just about anything lame you can think of has a festival....
