I see this a lot in the web stuff I research for work. These neo-eBay groups...the online swap meets...I see more and more "puppies swapped for junk" ads. Really disturbing.
About as bad as witnessing crates of puppies being sold from teh backs of cars at the malls in Fayetteville, NC? I'd never seen that before visiting my in-law's earlier this year. AND PEOPLE BUY THEM.

The lady can't spell "shepherd," either. If you're gonna request one, at least make sure you're asking for the correct thing.

Stacia,

The funny (or sad, depending) thing is, that's actually ILLEGAL in North Carolina, but no one gives a... :-#

I used to live in Fayetteville (my mother still does), and I've seen that a TON. Sitting out in front of Sam's Club selling pits or "Shepherds" or designer Pomehuahua Frises. Okay, not funny, but you know what I mean. And yup...sell like hotcakes. :x
Yeah, it floors me, too. I'm happy to report that I have NOT seen this here in Hickory LOL. In fact, I don't think we even have a kill shelter. There are NO off leash dogs roaming my neighborhood. I'm sure there are neglected dogs somewhere in this city, but for the most part people look like responnsible owners (well, there must be some deadbeats since we have shelters and rescues).

It's sad that someone has to specify that they don't want their dog thrown to the pits...

You know, no matter what, I would never buy or sell a dog to someone who spells it "Shepard" (or shepperd, shepheard, etc). :|
Sarah,

When I checked out my dog's veterinary records from the clinic in Germany (and mind you the military vet's primary job is to vet military working dogs which are most GSD's, Dutchie's, and mal's) the tab read:

"Achilles"
Canine
"German sheppard dog"

I just shook my head REALLY hard....

They also misspelled Abbie (had it Abey). I think they need a new receptionist.

Ummm...at least she got a little closer to teh correct spelling of shepherd this time????

Why does this not surprise me? How about you send that nice article on teh cost of breeding a litter from Canadian great dane breeder that was on teh other forum about a week ago? I think it summed it up nicely...
