thanks bob. we worked on his outs A LOT prior to the trial. he was not very consistent up until about a week before the trial. he cleaned up nicely. we finally just gave up on the compulsion. even with the e-collar on his flank at the highest setting, he'll just fight through it. we just started giving him a reward (either another bite or a fight with a tug) on the recall after EVERY bite. fortunately the way the trial scenarios were set up, with the long distance outs back to a recall for a handler protection, it played into our training perfectly. also he's much cleaner on the suit than he is on the sleeve (because that's his foundation with the IPO title).

Tim I LOVE hearing that! We had a really serious Sch III dog come to the club after 3 professional handlers gave up on his outs. He had even been choked out before he let go. All said he was hopeless. Just to tough. Our TD/helper had him doing clean outs within a few weeks. Nothing more then waiting him out and rewarding with another bite. Try and kick his a$$ and the war was on.
We use no e-collars, pinch collars or any other type of compulsion at our club. I know it not the same as working street dogs, but it sure as he(( works for us.
Course it's probably just cause we don't have any serious dogs here. :lol: :wink:

don't get me wrong. we still use the e-collar, but it's more of a reminder that "hey, you've got another one over here" type thing. so it's a combination of compulsion/motivation.

I have no idea how to get it on the computer really. It has little discs, so I am guessing I can just put them in one of the slots. I will ask then.

we worked on this a lot leading upto that trial i did in arizona. you can see in the video that he comes flying back to me. that is not because he loves me. it's because he's looking for the second bite...
