Cool video, Jeff. Here's a cookie. ;)

I haven't seen that many Belgian Ring videos. What are some basic differences between that and Mondio?

They are better at getting cool cranes than we are.

Overall I think that the handling is a lot less formal. Other than that, the differences would be the OG with a muzzle, and the escort, and the jumps are different, grips aren't judged. Might be a few more.

I still am not real familiar with the rules for BR, but as far as I can see, a Mondio trial can look like that. I really like the ginormous boat bumper they have out there.

Also, the decoys are just crash dummies? I could teach my mother to be a BR decoy in 30sec. When the dog attacks you just give rythmic love taps, LOL. Mondio decoying unlike BR decoying takes some skill.

I use to train BR and did the seminars and all that, Learned to be a BR decoy, however, it wasn't much to learn in that venue (decoy wise). I like the venue, but HATE the decoying it's very unrealistic. The dogs in that clip were great, I like the intensity they showed.

I think that overall the quality of the dogs coming out of Belgium show that all that fancy schmancy FR decoying proves very little when you have people that promote good dogs.:p :p :p

I have met some nice folks from Belgium, and they tell me that clubs do not allow weak dogs to train. They just send them home and tell them to get another dog.

Can you imagine how that would go over here in sensitive land???

I agree, and I disagree. I see some super nice dogs coming out of Belgium. But I've also seen some I would definitely consider weak. And they were titled in BR. Were very good environmentally, but couldn't handle a basic FR face attack. I love the environmental work of BR, but IMO the amount of pressure they put on the dog is overrated.

But I'd still take a good BR dog any day :)

Not to make this a which sport is better, because I'm sure they're great FR dogs that would run on a Br field and PSA and ASR dogs and everything thats different in the different programs provides another challenge to a dog trained specifically in another venue. But I also agree with Kadi, I'v seen some super awesome BR dogs and some that weren't.

My memory recalls a BR titled dog that Ran on an ASR entry level exercise. The first one, the dog had never seen a decoy react, behave and apply pressure in that way or form, and the dog refused to engage that decoy (me) again. The dog was coming in nice and hard assumably expecting for me to present (feed) him the arm as he was about to enter. Instead, I was square and at the last second, pivoted on my left foot to catch him on my tricept. His committment snapped the second he didn't get the bite he was use to. This dog mind you would bite full mouth and deep on a presented forearm, but as he made contact with my tricept, he caught it shallow, and as I was swinging him around for absorbtion he looked at my face and let go, flying off. As I opposed him ASR style, he refused to re-engage. This dog worked beautifully on a BR style decoy and training. Give more pressure from the man and less from the enviroment and the dog cracked.

I believe why so many good dogs do come from Belgian and the Belgian ring arena is because of what happens off the trial field, and both on and off the BR training field. I credit their success in good dogs from their all around training and not from BR. Because a weak dog CAN pass BR, so arguably it's not the BR system, although it definately contributes. Thats MO.

I think you can put the initials of any sport into the above, and it will be true. EVERY sport has a weak spot, it's up to the handler/trainer to recognize that, and test their dogs both on AND off the field, to get a true picture of what that dog really is.
