I have a friend who lives in Charleston, South Carolina and is *thinking* about maybe getting into Schutzhund or one of the other bitesports, but is having trouble finding any clubs in the area. Anyone know of any that aren't too far away?

I thought I'd bump this thread and see if there's any new blood in the Charleston area. I'm near the Charleston area and used to train and do some catching at the late Lowcountry (Charleston) Schutzhund Club. After returning to the area and having a bit more time, I'm getting back into the dog sport world. One other guy and I have been getting together to train. As far as I know there isn't a recognized dog sport club around Charleston, but I was wondering if there are any groups/individuals getting together to train schutzhund or any other sport for that matter?

Hi Frank...I'm here in Goose Creek and am looking for people to train with. I just got in touch with lewis lundy at the Carolina Schutzhund club and will be checking them out this Saturday. It kind of sucks that they are in Swansea which is between Orangeburg and Columbia.

So, what ever happened to Lowcountry Kennels out on Johns Island?

Don, you'll like Lewis and the whole group. Would love to have you and Frank come vist the seminar/trial in Augusta on Feb.22-24th. Need to come see this, you will like it. I'm doing APPDA and Schutzhund. The dogs know the difference. Tell Lewis Hi for me.

Don,
So there is another local around lol! I'll pm you my #.

I've heard good things about Lewis Lundy, how'd you enjoy it there? I've actually been meaning to contact him myself, my young'n needs to start seeing some more people.

I forgot about Lowcountry Kennels, I'm not sure what happened to that place. I take it by you asking they're not around any more. I only met a few people that had trained there or had gotten dogs from there, so I'm not sure what their story was.

By the way, are you going to the SchH trial in Columbia this weekend?

It was an interesting experience the first time meeting with the Carolina Schutzhund club. It helped expose some things we need to work on with my dog. Lewis seemed like a good guy. Overall, I liked it and will be going back again.

As far as the trial, lewis suggested it would be good to attend, but I won't be able to make it. Once a month, I have an Autocross event I participate in, and it just happens to be this Saturday.

As far as the low Country kennels thing.... Yes, they are no longer around. Because of the name, I assumed they also were part of the lowcountry Schutzhund club that you mentioned.

Anyway, I'll respond to your PM

I live in Charleston, and I am looking for people/a person to train with. My dog is 11 months old, and neither of us have any experience ;) I've concentrated on trying to build his drives, and he sits/lays/stays/bites/and sniffs on command but I'm not really sure I can go any further by myself and I'm pretty much shooting from the hip without having some experienced blood around. Books and DVD's can only take me so far :) Anyone interested in helping us out?
