| When you were a kid... Did any of you experience a "protection" dog as a child and do you think this has influenced your involvement or interest in protection dogs or sports? Seeing Dan's video of Daisy the Dane reminded me *in bold*, of our dog Heidi, the GSD. There was a mean bully boy who lived down the street from us who came up into our yard one day and was scruffing me up and took my hula hoop. Heidi wasn't having it and she chased him off, ran down the street after him and bit him in the butt. She came right back and stood her ground. I remember being so proud of that dog and happy she protected me. Of course, she had no training in protection, however, I can't help but wonder if that experience has veered me in the direction of working dogs/protection sports. Then, compare my interest to another who did not have any experience like this as a child and they a) are not dog people or b) have no interest in workingdogs/sports involving protection. Has this been discussed here before? |
