Dogs and fireworks

Being the 31 of December there were fireworks all around this evening. My neighbors were doing some on the road right in front of my house. They have a little poodle which they left off leash. The little dog was getting very excited and rushing in towards the fireworks at every new explosion. The fireworks were placed on the ground. Some were louder and more explosive than others. At those times I think the poodle was very close to grabbing them with her mouth. I suggested to the owners to keep the dog away as it could hurt its eyes.

I took this opportunity to see how my dog will react to the noise and explosions. I had it on leash and started from 50ft away, he was observing the fireworks but not excited. So I took him closer to where everyone was standing, about 20ft away and put him in a down stay. The whole time ears forward looking at what's going on but no nervousness or aggression.

I guess that's a good reaction, just wonder how other peoples dogs do with it.
