21 month old German Shepherd available as a donation to a police department or other active working situation.
"Nanook" is formally trained in man-trailing (consistent on blind trails up to about 1/2 mile) has full obedience: on and off-leash everything from positive reinforcement based to also understanding all ecollar work.
He was started on boxes for narc work and also bites full and deep on bite suit.
He is being offered for adoption ONLY because he just doesn't do well in our kennel situation. He is too active (bouncing around) in the kennel around the other dogs, but is fine when kenneled by himself or working. We are not going to be able to do more work with him until Spring and would rather get him to a good situation than see him waste away and hurt himself.
Pros of the dog: gorgeous black sable medium size, fast, athletic, very high drive and endurance to work for long periods, strong deep bite. Easy to handle, reasonable social with people and female dogs, good nerves. SURE THING for a detection job.
Cons: Burns himself out if left in kennel around other dogs (jumps and pushes himself off the kennel walls).
Slighty "dull" with the natural aggression in bite work. Although, he has no taboo with biting into anything put in front of him when worked in prey. He does not care if he bites hard into decoy even in thin suit where he feels the person. Not the best dog if looking for a "crowd control" type dog. We have not pushed him civil, but will if we still have him in Spring.
